Abstract

How to get started with Cortex Xpanse Assess.

After you have purchased Cortex Xpanse Assess from your account team, your first assessment will be run. When that assessment is ready, you will receive a welcome email with login information for the Cortex Xpanse Assess web application.

When you first log into Cortex Xpanse Assess, you’ll see the home page dashboard.

Some important elements of the Cortex Xpanse Assess application include the following:

  • Viewing Assessment For — Indicates the date range for which the data was collected for the most current assessment. Note that the first time you log into the Cortex Xpanse Assess application, your first assessment will already have been run.

  • Balance:— Displays the number of unused assessments and total number of assessments purchased in the current validity period. Click on the balance value to display the Assessment Activity log for your organization.

  • Run New Assessment—Use the Run New Assessment button to initiate a new assessment and refresh the data as needed.

  • Settings (settings-icon.png)—Click the Settings icon to view or change application settings and preferences, such as your resetting your password.

  • Documentation (documentation-icon.png )—Click the Documentation icon to access the Cortex Xpanse Assess release notes and user guide.

The Cortex Xpanse web application is made up of six modules that can be accessed using the navigation tabs at the top of the page:

  • Dashboards—The dashboards module provides reporting on the current and historical state of your organization's Assets, Services, and Issues. There are four dashboards in the module. Each dashboard provides the ability to filter the data displayed and to export data as either a CSV file or image. See Dashboards for more information.

  • Issues—The issues module identifies security and configuration problems within your organization's assets and services, providing a workflow in which you can investigate, prioritize, track remediation efforts, and independently confirm that problems have been corrected. See Issues for more information.

  • Services—The services module provides an inventory of all software and services that are connected to the public-facing internet including observable details about software versions, configurations, and framework technologies. See Services for more information.Services

  • Assets—The assets module provides an inventory of all the internet assets that Cortex Xpanse has attributed to your organization, including their IP ranges, certificates, domains. See Assets for more information.

  • Reports—The reports module is the home of the Report Center, which is where CSV exports and other reports that you have initiated in Cortex Xpanse are accessible. The Report Center provides a list of all the reports that have been generated by Cortex Xpanse users in your organization.

  • Policies—Cortex Xpanse creates policies (also called issue policies) for asset and service classifications that may create security problems for an organization. The Policies module lists the policies available in Cortex Xpanse and enables users with permission to turn policies on or off and change the priority and default assignee.
